Quarterly Goals

July 26, 2019

For the last two years, I have been doing quarterly goals, to help myself focus more intently on the things, well, that I would like to focus on. They are seriously magic.

Some quarters have been super successful, while others have not. There was one quarter where I set my goals way too high and had way too many and failed on nearly every front. One quarter earlier this year I simply did not set any quarterly goals because I was in my first trimester and sleep and trying not to get sick literally trumped everything else in my life.

But here I am smack in the middle of Q3 of 2019, almost 20 weeks pregnant, and setting more quarterly goals. And let me tell you, they make me so happy.

I often set my goals in three areas: work, self, relationship, and then I will often set goals related to each of my kids. I am likely not going to share my work goals here, but here goes the rest.

Relationships: Date days with each member of my family! This one is an easy layup. My husband and I already had a date afternoon the first week in July, where we went hiking and out to an early dinner. We also have Cubs tickets for Labor Day weekend, so yay! I have had so many date days with Maggie. My purposeful one was taking her to a pool/splash pad. I still need to fit one in with my son. I am thinking a bike ride or something outside.

Self: Workout every day. Honestly this doesn’t usually happen, but I will often set this goal to reset myself when I need it. Since I barely moved during my first trimester, my objective is to move more often during the second. And it has worked! I am running/walking most mornings. I am doing a Fit4Mom Fit4Baby class weekly and my husband and I are starting to workout together again too. I feel so much better when I workout!

Son: Work with him on his tongue tie exercises. We will likely get this procedure done, but need to get him more comfortable with doing the exercises first. So we are practicing touching his tongue a lot.

Daughter: Go on one new adventure each week! I stepped up her “date day” to something fun once a week. Since she starts preschool in September, I want to take advantage of this time that I have with her. It has been going well. We have explored new places outside, gone swimming, and baked cookies.

I admittedly went a bit easy on myself this month. Most of these things would have likely happened anyway, but it helps me to focus on how I want to spend my time.
