A Year in Review: 20 for 2020

Jan 4, 2021

Last January, I set 20 goals for 2020. Then a pandemic hit. Here’s how I did. Also, as a side note, back in January, I decided my word for this year would be grace. Boy, oh boy, was that right.

Quarter 1

Daily morning devotion or bible reading: This actually happened most mornings so I am counting it as yes. Pandemic or no pandemic, it was inevitable I would miss a few here or there.

Monthly dates with Mike: This actually happened—in our home, mostly.

One solo date with Maggie: Yes! We went to an indoor carnival in February.

One solo date with Matthew: Not in Q1. We had a date to go see the trains, but I was sick with mastitis, and then the pandemic hit. We did do a bike trip later in the year, so I am going to count it as a win.

Celebrate Sean’s milestones each month: Yes. I have been taking pictures monthly and recording thoughts.

Update pictures throughout house: Some new pictures went up in the beginning of the year, yes.

Get out of the house every single day (even if it is just standing on the front porch for five minutes): This happened all of January and most of February.

Blog weekly: Not weekly. I am currently shooting for monthly.

Start working again (following a brief maternity leave): Yes. Working has been going great.

Quarter 2

Weekly dates with Mike: Mostly, yes. We made it a point to have weekly date nights. While some weeks didn’t happen, most did.

Get out of the house regularly with the kids after school: Umm. I made it a point to play in the backyard in the afternoons if that counts. We did a lot of walks too.

Redecorate kid’s rooms: Nope. Just Sean’s. Hoping to do the big kids next year.

Do run club: Yes! We got a good couple weeks before everything shut down.

Run a 5K: I did do this on my own.

Celebrate turning 35: I can’t remember what I did, honestly. I think I requested to go to bed early, which is a celebration to me.

Quarter 3

Do Body Back: Yes! It was outdoors and it was wonderful.

Family vacation to Door County: Sob. No. It was supposed to be a huge family reunion for my Grandma’s 90th birthday and it just didn’t happen.

Quarter 4

Daily advent activities with kids: Yes! Each day we read one bible verse, put a felt animal/person on the manager scene, read a Christmas book, ate a piece of chocolate, and did an advent activity. It has been such a welcome activity this year.

Anniversary overnight with Mike: No. Sob. We did go to outdoor church (alone) and out to eat. It was nice enough to sit outside.

Edit book: No. But I have been doing some research/reading for my next book project. Stay tuned.

Much of the scope needed to be redefined for many of these, but most did happen.
